A Meditation on Nature and Experience

After so many days,
the ring cuts
into the skin. Or,
the finger grows
around it. Like saplings
grow round twine,

twisting naturally
unnatural. Let it grow
long enough, the two
are indistinguishable.

No one wonders
whether it
hurts the tree.

No one asks
whether the finger
will recover.
